"Hidden Truth - Forbidden Knowledge!"

What is meant by “zero-point” and “free energy”? Why has it been suppressed? Have devices been built? Who knows about them? Having studied their suppression, Dr. Steven Greer has formulated a strategy for bringing these devices out to the world. What is that strategy? And what is the promise of “free energy”? Why is this promise of vital importance to the future of humanity? Dr. Steven Greer, better known for his "Disclosure Project" to educate the public about the reality of UFO contact, is also the founder-director of the "Orion Project" designed to improve our world - today & tomorrow - by manifesting real, workable new energy systems for the benefit of everyone. His story of how he became involved in this struggle and its promises & pitfalls is NOT to be missed. Our Future depends on cheap, renewable Energy so learn how to join Dr. Greer in bringing it out as soon as possible.

The Unicorn problem

This year, walking down the Adapt Street with a couple of friends, we were swarmed by a pack of unicorns. They surrounded [name withheld to protect the innocent] and kept poking at her with their horns, chanting and drum beating until she screamed - convincingly enough - that she believed in unicorns. It was traumatic. Finally and thankfully, they let her go.

Dialogue may be an option. Culling and/or sterilization would seem to be more effective.

I wonder was anyone else attacked by unicorns? Is the BMOrg doing anything to control the growing unicorn problem in BRC?

Anyone need a ride to Seattle decom? Anyone already going, but looking to carpool? Myself and a friend are leaving tomorrow at 11am to help with setup, and we're planning on driving back Sunday morning around the same time. Money is really tight these days, so I'd be stoked if I could fill my car. I'm asking for around $7 from each person.
Figured I'd offer space here first before resorting to craigslist, because I'd much rather have fellow burners in the car.
Respond to this post or shoot me a message if you're interested
Thanks

OT Playa care

I'm not sure if this is off topic for here but I'll let the mods decide. In my opinion, caring for the local communities and the playa is on topic.

There is a petition put out by the group Nevadans Against Garbage, a local Winnemucca group that are concerned about the proposal to ship California garbage to the Jungo area (north of BRC but still playa) where a permit has been issued for a landfill.

Here's the petition: http://answers.polldaddy.com/poll/2062522/

Here's the group's website for background information: http://www.nevadansagainstgarbage.com

Seems Humboldt County passed an ordinance to allow garbage from outside the region to be dumped in that county at sites other than the Humboldt County regional landfill. Now they've issued a permit to Norcal (Recology) to allow for a landfill at Jungo which can accept hazardous waste.

This may be an issue that individual burners want to take up to support the locals who are very upset about this prospect and who were not given a chance for public comment on the ordinance.

I've written a blog entry to inform burners who read my non-Tribe blog here: http://seeingredinthesouthwest.blogspot.com/

Might be time we took LNT home with us - seems ridiculous that Californian garbage would need to be transported to dump on the playa in Nevada.

Friday at Kamp Suckie Fuckaye we setup a shitty ramp with some leftover wood from our saloon and had people jump it. We called it "The Fucking Ramp" as "Ramp of Death" was already taken. Anyway this guy came by and hung out for a few hours, he had to be the drunkest individual I had ever seen in my life.

Every time I see this picture I wonder who he was / is and what his back story was.

What Did You Learn at the Burn?

I've been kicking around this idea anyway, but the cupcake thread really made me want to articulate this. "We" (and I hope we can escape the whole "what is 'we'" conversation by stipulating that it's not a precise term in this context) put a lot of time, effort, and money into the burn. Are we changed by it? I'd argue yes, although I admit it's possible there's a whole lot of interpretation of the word "changed." I do find myself telling myself "radical self-reliance" when I face some problems. And it does help me focus my thoughts.
So, have you learned anything at the burn? Something that's not about universal brotherhood or some hazy thing like that, but something that's concrete?
Just curious.

Used clothes as a dome cover

Maybe I'll get more responses in the actual BM tribe...

Hello y'all

'09 was my virgin BM experience and I loved every moment of it. As a moderately broke college student, I want to focus on one project for BM 10. I decided a geodesic dome would be a good introduction to Burning Man projects. I have enough money to build a proper 3V 5/8 dome, but I'd like to get creative and try to skimp on the cover. So...

Would it be practical to sew used and trashed clothes, cloth, sheets, etc into a dome cover? Would this stand up to the wind and dust? sporadic rain? The almighty Sun?

I'm leaning towards making the cover out of just used denim, as denim seems to be a strong material, and is quite like canvas. What do you think?

Buy tickets: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/84135

We invite you to come celebrate with over 25,000 square feet of theme
camps, interactive displays, fire spinners, DJs, live music and
performers, dance, art cars, grilled cheese, suspension rigs, small
blimps, neon rainbows, and any other damned thing we can think of.
Imagine one city block of Burning Man being transported - streets and
all - into a big empty box - and you've got an idea of SeaCompression.

Sponsored by Ignition Northwest and produced by the Seattle arts
community, SeaCompression is Seattle's annual Burning Man
decompression party, in which celebrants of many subcultures come
together to reminisce about the old year and begin counting the days
until they return home to the playa. Whether you've been to Burning
Man or not, SeaCompression is a vibrant, exciting celebration, packed
with exotic entertainment and smart, funny, beautiful and cleverly
dressed celebrants.

The proceeds from SeaCompression go to help fund large scale art
projects, such as Umbrella Favella, Jake the Giant Robot Head,
Groovik's Cube, and B/IAS - the Burien Interim Arts Space.

I watched some, the burn specifically. On the radio broadcast, with the circling camera. Bicycles, plenty of bicycles, and wandering fashionistas. Good music. What a town, huh? Maybe some day. All the same, I hope you all had fun. I recently noticed that the forum was public again, so I thought I would say hello. Good people here, where's FKO? Rollicking good times. The juices of creativity, and you all have plenty. So, hello again. Let's talk geology, Rhino. OT, OT, OT, almost forgot that. I will not mention AMSU. Shit!

Has Anyone Seen My Tits Yet?

I was hoping that if I posted a shout-out to all the pervs
to view my tits or my junk, tribe would crash again.

Where's that 'attention whore' pic of the girl doing the handstand
so everone can see down her crack?

And, since tribe will crash every five seconds, perhaps since
this will be visible from the front-page for a while, I'll have the added
bonus of teaching people how, if at all, they could contribute to
conserving tribe resources so I don't keep losing posts that have more
than 'hoop girl spreads her legs, anyone lookin'?'

hi there lovely peeps
i just wanted to say "high"! from down here. i hadn't been on tribe for ages and decided to pop in for a quick visit and was pleasantly surprised to see people still kicking about here (no i haven't defected to fakebook, but was under the impression that the rest of the world had) and reading some of the posts on the bm group brought a big smile to my face and lots of memories from this year flooding back- just reading you all made me feel all fuzzy and feel closer to the desert.
thanks to everyone who was there this year for being part of my incredibly amazing experience!
love and guts,
mish

Hello,

Does anyone have aerial footage of the city they'd be willing to share with me? I found the perfect track for our 09 adventures, with a perfect spot for aerial video. I can give you a DVD upon completion, with end credit. I got some last year from JDS (I don't know if he's reading Tribe)

Registrations are live at www.southbayburners.org/events for SoulFire 2009. Yes, there’s one last chance to camp for 32 whole hours in true burner style! Bring your tent, your costumes, your memories, your EL wire, your exuberance, your community spirit, that little bit of playa your shook out of your shoes, and come for a weekend that will warm your cockles until Burning Man 2010 tickets go on sale in January.

Come rebuild a taste of Burning Man in the redwoods! It won’t be the same without you. Literally! We have room for fire, music, theme camps, workshops, art and (stationary) art cars, and plenty of room for placement throughout Lupin’s 110 acres, just outside of Los Gatos. So bring it!

Art grants will be available for art installations and (stationary) art cars, and other comps are available for volunteer staff for greeters/gate, rangers, LNT mavens, and parking crew. If you want to participate, or to get your sound or theme camps placed, or host an activity, send an email to southbay@burningman.com.

And don’t wait to register now at www.southbayburners.org/events!!

Way OT, but worth the risk -- Flu Shot Question for Crypto

Crypto, you often cut against the grain with your comments, and seem to have a very realistic/scientific viewpoint. What's your take on the flu shot? I've never had one and don't plan on getting one, but am not nearly as confident when it comes to making decisions regarding my two-year-old (and there's this Swine Flu thing). Upon our pediatrician's strong advice, we gave Graham a flu shot when he was 1. We're getting slightly more sleep these days than those, so are thinking more, if not more clearly.
So, in the simplest terms, we have our doctor on one side and this: articles.mercola.com/sites/a...sed.aspx
on the other. The video is clearly one-sided, but brings up some points to ponder.

I would have pm'd you with this, but thought many people could benefit from the discussion.

I thank you and anyone else who chimes in for your opinion.
Follow the DECOMandments below to better enjoy and support our community event!
The 2009 DECOMmandments & Survival Guide

The Decom Heat The Street FaIRE! is on Indiana St. between Mariposa and 22nd
Enter at 19th and Minnesota Street
Sound ends at 10 pm everywhere except the Mariposa Stage (until 11pm)
Bike Racks: corner of 19th and Minnesota
Located just off the T-Line on 3rd and near major bus lines. Please use them:
Muni bus #22, #48 and BART connects with the 3rd St T-line

Here’s how you can participate in making this our best Decompression ever!

•	Arrive Early! Come at NOON and enjoy a full day of amazing art, people and programming! Don't come late or you WILL miss amazing experiences and spectacles scheduled only EARLY in the day. Enter at 19th & Minnesota; the other entries are for registered artists/performers only.

•	Respect Our Neighbors. Enter and leave the area VERY quietly. Don’t block driveways and don’t drive or park on Minnesota Street AT ALL unless approved for unloading there in advance.

•	Green Your Commute! Don’t waste gas seeking a parking spot; parade to the event with thousands of others on public transportation. Or bike! There will be bike racks at 19th & Minnesota. Or carpool and park at the UCSF lot at 16th St. & 3rd St. (3 blocks away with special discounted $5 parking rate), at the ballpark, or on Illinois Street or Terry Francois Blvd. Please do NOT drive or park on Minnesota Street or Indiana Street. There will also be a taxi stand at 18th and Minnesota for your convenience. And mass transit is VERY convenient.

•	Express Yourself and pARTicipate! Wear your finest playa pageantry and costumery. Then illuminate your outfit with solar lighting and magical powers by night! Oh, and bring warm layers. It’s San Francisco, ya know! We always have room for photos and hanging art on the fences, but we tend to get FULL on everything else that needs placement or scheduling! To register art, please email flambelounge(at)burningman(dot)com so we can accommodate and celebrate YOUR special contribution to this amazing community. ALL sound systems, fire art, theme camps, vehicles and stage acts MUST be registered and confirmed in advance. (NO MORE SOUND OR FIRE ART THIS YEAR!)

•	Perform Random Acts of Art, Kindness and Gifting. You know you want to!

•	NO Renegade Sound or Unapproved Fire Performance, Fire Art, Fire Hats, Candles or Burning Clumps of Sage: Any of these will jeopardize this event. Leave unregistered sound and fire art home, please! And if you see anyone with fire outside the barricaded fire art area or the Mariposa fire stage, ask the person to PUT IT OUT and PUT IT AWAY right away!

•	Volunteer! This is a volunteer-driven event and we need volunteers! To be part of the process and team that makes Decompression so special, email firekitty (at) burningman (dot) com . Or stop in at Volunteer sign-up at the Decom Info located on Indiana at 19th. And EVERYONE is part of our Leave No Trace team, so please pick up any trash, club fliers and feathery bits as you enjoy the day and night.

•	Share Your Favorite Playa Photos/Videos! We need the content upfront this year, so please email flambe(at)burningman(dot)com and we'll do our best to get it up on the Decom stage screens! Wait till you see what we have already! Wow!

•	HELP US... Express Responsibly! Protect the event and our beautiful park. We need YOUR help to honor our permit terms and promises:
- No stakes, unleashed dogs, fire, amplified sound, vehicles or bikes in the park;
- Use entrances and do not cut through bushes, where there are sprinkler heads;
- No unapproved amplified sound systems or fire art. (Oh, yeah, we said that already. Just checking you’re paying attention.)
- No drumming, loud or amplified sound after 10PM ANYWHERE. The only exception will be the Mariposa Stage performance until 11PM. If anyone is drumming or making amplified noise on the street after 10pm, shoot first and ask questions later. (um…don’t actually shoot them. Just get them to stop.)
- After sound ends, talk quietly and enjoy the art, theme camps, and community
- If you are a registered art car or theme camp, please take extra care to not drive over ANY electric cables or distro boxes during setup/breakdown. Take special care during exodus when you are likely to be tired. Have someone safely guide you out of your spot and get home safe.

•	Leave Quietly and Travel in Groups to help one another back to your cars and next destinations. If you are alone, ask a Ranger for help and wait at one of the exits to join a group going your way. Remember this is an urban environment and there is safety in numbers. And PLEASE do not drive if you have had anything to drink. Have a designated driver or take a taxi. Smart, right!?

•	And of course… Leave No Trace! Properly sort trash, recycling and composting throughout the day. Please pick up trash and deposit it in appropriate pails. Breakdown is 10PM-midnight for the park and 12-2AM everywhere else. By 2AM, EVERYTHING MUST BE GONE and small debris must be swept into the street for the street sweeper we hired to work its street sweeper magic. If you are exhibiting at Decom, please bring an extra broom to sweep the sidewalks clean and pick up large debris in the street. Also, please remove unwanted fliers from cars and wherever you see them. I mean, really people, can’t we just hand them to people that actually want them instead of forcing them on unsuspecting cars and neighbors!

•	Please Come Back Monday Morning!: Leaving the neighborhood cleaner than we found it is a gift we are serious about giving. If you are an early riser, return bright and early and, starting on Minnesota Street and moving to surrounding blocks) pick up any trash, feathers, cigarette butts and leftovers you see. If you need to sleep later, come from 11am-4pm for our main annual neighborhood and park clean-up! A group of us will start on Minnesota and 19th, move to the park, to Indiana, then surrounding streets. Many hands make light work and every year we leave the neighborhood CLEANER than we found it. Bring gloves, brooms, shovels and plastic bags if you got ‘em. We’ll bring extra supplies, free donuts and coffee! And we’ll love you even more! Seriously, we need YOU to volunteer even for a little while so we can clean the place faster than a plague of LNT locusts! Hey, thanks! This really means a lot to those of us that have to stay up all night packing out in our high heels, platform boots, and happy but bloody stumps.

If you can help with a park planting (probably in January), e-mail Flambelounge@burningman.com and we’ll send you a secret garden party announcement when the date is set.

We are on your way to making this our best Decompression ever and a showcase for our art and community. Help us bring the spirit of Black ROCK City to heat the streets of Black TOP City right here in San Francisco!

THANK YOU for your part in creating Black TOP City and for making this a year-round community! Special thanks to ALL the artists, performers, theme camps, volunteers, year-round Burning Man Special Events team, and Burning Man staff who made this year’s Burning Man and today so darned meaningful and extraordinary! Our sincere thanks also to our lovely neighbors in the Dogpatch, SFFD, Bayview Police Dept, ISCOTT, Entertainment Commission and other public agencies involved with the day. Thank you and HOORAY!!!

The Horrific Home of Beatrice Stainsbury

Although calmly nestled in a quiet, unsuspecting Commercial Dr. neighborhood, no one has dared set foot in the Horrific Home of Beatrice Stainsbury since the early 1900s... until now. On one night only, this house of ill-repute will open its doors to worlds previously unheard of and unexperienced in any haunted house you may have visited. Your senses will tingle with fear, laughter, repulsion, sadness and curiosity, as the macabre, the terrifying and the outrageous join up with moments of heart-wrenching beauty, soul-stirring sadness and unavoidable mirth.

This unforgettable evening is divided into several scenes. The first is a delicious, scary and oddball tea party at 1940 Napier st. where you will be offered delicious tea and snakes (I mean snacks). Then, at your allotted time, you get shuttled onto a bus and taken to Beatrice Stainsbury's house. There you will experience the house in all its scary splendour. Throughout this 40 minute tour, the morbid denizens of the house will regale you with the telling of their histories through circus, theatre, burlesque and music. Finally, you will get shuttled back to your original location to either hang out or pick up your car/bicycle/bearings and enjoy the rest of the night in a Halowe'eny kinda way!

Date: October 31st, 2009

Time: The first tour leaves at 6:40 pm. There are tours leaving every 20 minutes until 9 pm.

Where: The event begins at 1940 Napier St. (Vancouver) Please arrive a good half hour before your tour to make sure you don't miss your turn. Plus you don't want to miss out on the delicious finger food! Bwahahaha.

Tickets: $28.00

** You MUST pre-pay your ticket(s) before choosing your tour-time. Once you have paid, you will be sent the link to the schedule and you'll be able to choose your tour time.

If you don't like using Paypal, please contact Myriam at info@inthehousefestival.com or 604-874-9325 to arrange an alternative.

Tickets are also available on-line at www.inthehousefestival.com

Important: There are only 8 tours on this evening. Each tour only has room for 11 people max. Again, you MUST pre-pay and pre-register for a tour.

If you don't want to miss out, buy your tickets asap! If you want to go on the tour with your friends, we highly recommend purchasing everyone's tickets at the same time and registering them when you register.

More information on In the House, performers and upcoming shows can be found at www.inthehousefestival.com.

share your favorite moment

we all have a favorite moment out there.. maybe it was something you did or saw, a way you volunteered or a conversation. What was yours?

This year one of my Fav memories is backing chocolate chip cookies at my camp and then taking them to Opulent temple at about 3am. It was so nice to see faces light up as I handed out hot fresh good ole chocolate chip cookies. People are so happy when they ask whats in those and you say just chocolate chips :-) Having an oven with me has been so much fun giving out fresh muffins cookies and brownies all of the old fashioned plane June Clever variety.... but I suppose I have a little of the June Clever vibe happening occasionally.

that is one of mine whats yours?

I've been off list/off line serving at a few Military Bases.
A Burner friend who I know and love was used badly by some so called Burners.
I wanted to take leave, fly home, and punch some noses/kick some balls. I can't.
But!!!
It reminds me of many other incidents over the years.
Rape. Child abuse, theft, assault, larceny, vandalism,...

Radically Inclusive.
We are intolorant of weakness. Hypocritacally so. We attack well meaning percieved weak ones, but not our own!
We Herd. Protect. Yet attack the wrong people sometimes.
I know a Woman in LA who has been chased from Tribe. A woman in Missouri who wants nothing to do with anybody in this Communty, a Guy in Texas dying, wise men and women who were the best of us, many others either leaving BM or many, many others who have done so!!!!
Then we don't talk about our own Users/Posers/UglyMotherFuckingDrawn to the Dark Side/Fuckups.

Tolerance V Community
Thats always been a tough one for me.

I hope this isn't pulled immediately by the Moderators. I know this is essentially a Blog. But I give a shit about this Community.

I am seeking a sample that is diverse in age, relationship status, and geographic location. If you have 20 minutes or so, please click on the *anonymous* link below. (And feel free to send the link to potentially interested friends and family members) Thanks in advance.

Checkpoint Dreamyourtopia's final destination: Berlin!

A short note from Amsterdam to inform you that after running immigration procedures at Burning Man and the Lowlands Festival in the Netherlands, the Department of Dreamland Security has now packed up its operation and moved headquarters to Berlin.

7th and 8th of November the Checkpoint will again protect the border between Dreams and Reality. This time in an old swimmingpool. Afterwards the Checkpoint will be covered in paint and graffiti by lots of artists and eventually we'll smash the wall dividing Dreams and Reality to pieces using sledgehammers. Thus setting Dreams free again!
This will happen exactly twenty years after the Berlin Wall came crumbling down.

So just in case anyone has plans coming to Europe end of this year, put this in your agenda!

Yours Dreamingly

What will you do differently next time?

A great question that is asked every year after the event, and threads like this have helped me plan for next year.

You would think that after 4 years of going, my 5th you would have dialed in.....NOPE! Not a chance.....there are so many things I have to list....

~Arrive on Tuesday instead of Sunday night. I want to be 100% sure I have energy and stamina for the Temple Burn. I know, I suck at BUrning Man in some ways.

~Bigger tent. I actually got a bigger tent, but left the poles at home. ASSHOLE! I had to suffice with my old tent, and I have about had it with that one.

~Camp in the Burbs. 3 years on the Esplanade is plenty. I miss the starry skies at night and a slice of quiet now and then. I also miss spending more times in the burbs. I tell myself to, but I end up being swayed by the vast playa.

~ Dont attempt to find my groove at BMan every night. I am music sensitive. I am a music GURU, I live and breathe it. But I got music festivals all year long to indulge in groovin. I dont need to go find my fave DJs at the large sound camps because I will generally be dissapointed, as a lot of that scene is not up my alley. Now if I have a lover or a friend who I want to rage it with, thats fine. But I wont ever go looking for conversation at the large sound camps again....HAHAHAHAA Foolio! Let the music find me

~ DJ more at small sound clubs. I had a fucking AMAZING time DJing on Wed AM at Lustre this year, and I want to do it more!! People really dug what I played, it was different and people appreciated it. Im gonna do it more often, it was an amazing experience and I have more confidence now that BRC will dig what I have to offer.

~Mingle with people at the art installations more. I had some amazing conversations out there and met many awesome folk.

~Gift to "strangers" more. I did that this year on Saturday and I wish I would of done that all week. Giving a simple pink day glo man sticker Imade to people made me interact with so many nice folks and I got some much love and gifts in return!! More of that next time!!

~GET A CRUISER BIKE. Mine broke in 08 so I brougth a mountain bike, and having handles that you have to bend over to reach made me feel like i was getting it in the ass all frickin week. Never again! Cruiser bike with handles that you can sit upright is the key to comfy cruising! ANd remember that extra bike foam, without it biking is a chore.

~Tape up my car locks!!

~DRINK MORE WATER. I was dehydrated on Thurs and it SUCKED.

~Rest up all of July and August so my head is fresh for BMan. Its worth it to not party so I can party harder at Bman!! I have to watch out since there are so many fun events around here in mid summer....but if I just dicipline myself I will appreciate BMan partying that much more.

~If some hot guy from New Zealand bikes up to me and asks me for a date after some good chit chatting, dont plan a date or a time....JUST GO ON A DATE RIGHT THEN AND THERE!!! DUH! hahahahaha

Dearest Burners,

An epic re-jiggering of humanity is upon us. In this moment of transformation and transcendence (literally “The End of Days”), 3,000 pioneers of a new era gather in a remote former air base deep in Brooklyn to celebrate our evolution towards this moment, and to join forces to create a more perfect world. Together, we will build a model of utopia for the last of our kind, opening our arms to the diversity of post-human life and creating a new world in our image.

As the final 3,000 souls left on this planet, we ask ourselves: are we human or post-human? Granted the ability to create our own forms, what can we learn from our evolution to this point in time…and how can we evolve into a more perfect future?
Burners from Maine coming to Bay Area

My gf, Claudia, and I flew one way out here from Maine to go to our first Burning Man, and from then on we've been on what many are calling "walk about". Anyways, we're just outside Sacramento at the moment in Granite Bay, but are making our way to San Francisco (our target range this week is anywhere from Santa Cruz to Santa Rosa). We plan on most likely going to SF Decompression, maybe the Santa Cruz one too, but were wondering if there are any burners who would be interested in showing us around or letting us couch surf for a night or two (Courageous Emu, Claudia on couchsurfing.org). We're both fire dancers, with my speciality in poi and hers in aerial trapeze. Otherwise, have a great one and namaste :)
-Gregor

Side note, we are also interested in busking in the area so if anyone could give us a breakdown, ie places to hang a trapeze in a park or where fire is cool (no pun intended) or need a permit. Merci!

WHAT is a Burner?

KK brought up a discussion about Community and the term Burner has been bandied about.

I think we all have our own definition of what a Burner is.

Personally, I think a Burner is someone who THINKS about BM every day.... nothing more, nothing less.

I'm not sure if a Burner has to adhere to any particular principals... but we might share some common ones like not tossing a candy wrapper on the ground... part of "leave no trace".

What do you think?

Do you really think you can "define" Burner?

bike thiefs solution

we need to a find a solution to stop the stolen bikes every year. That's a test for our community.

If you have a cable lock it will be cut. If you have a U-lock you can't lock your bike to something and you bike will be carried away. It happened to me.

I was thinking of bike racks (equipped with locks maybe) at different locations where they would be most needed.

It doesnt cost much and it would pretty much solve the problem if people are willing to walk a little. Which is fine

what do you think?

The Burning Man Musical starts on Monday Oct 4th at Teatro Zinzani.
I have been helping Shannon with the sets and Getting the Java Cows costume back together. It is pretty good and the music is worth humming.
The preview was last night, and the audience was dressed as well as the cast in a few instances. The play is a history lesson mixed with a camping experience by some first timers.

Giant panoramas of 2009, several done at night

I have put up my gallery of giant panoramas for 2009. I hope you all got a chance to see the "evolution of BRC" display which had 11 years of the panos (shrunk down to just 10' long) on the playa at around 8:30 and 200' from the Esplanade.

Here they are: http://pic.templetons.com/brad/pano/bman09.html

In addition, I have rebuilt a lot of the older panos at a higher resolution to reflect today's web and screens, so you may want to look at some of the older years. All from 2005 on have been rebuilt, plus the best ones. This year I made pages containing some of the best:

http://pic.templetons.com/brad/pano/bigburn.html

Contains the big full-city image from each of the last 12 years, all one one page.

http://pic.templetons.com/brad/pano/bestburn.html

Is a sampling of some of my favourites from the 12 years.

This year, I did a lot of night panoramas, thanks to my new 5dII camera which has much better low light ability. Even so, night panos are much harder than day ones, but I know you will enjoy the shot of the burn from the Esplanade and the playa from the temple.

You may also want to check out the super-sized one I put on gigapan at http://gigapan.org/gigapans/33260/ -- be sure to click on the full screen viewer link, and then follow the link to the rest of my gigapans, which are mostly BRC: http://gigapan.org/profiles/2015/

My regular sized photos are not yet picked and arranged. I'll announce when those are ready or track the burning man or photography topics on my blog.

Hang Cave Concert--Marin Headlands--October 17th

For Burners looking to get a healthy boost of creativity in the afterburn, check out "Hang Rhapsody." It's a live cave concert up at the Hawk Hill Tunnel in The Marin Headlands. If you've never heard the Hang Drum before, you'll be mesmerized. It looks like a UFO with evenly space divots. Gets you to deeper brain states pretty quickly. There will be 8 Hang players + Dancing Monks, a theater troupe, all performing together in the resonant chamber of The Earth itself.

It's on Saturday, October 17th at 7:30 pm.

For more info, go here:

Eplaya/3playa plans to have a MnG on Thursday at 6pm. I know some peeps here swing both, or all 3 ways ;) and may be planning on attending, but I was curious if there were any plans to have a Tribe version. There are def. some people here that I am interested in meeting personally, and it may weed out a few socks LOL

Any ideas, plans, rumors of a Darpa project underway that already addresses this?

"Metropolitan" Art Ideas

I totally think Joshua Allen Harris does neat work, even if he's hit in a way that makes him really trendy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PH6xCT2aTSo
His art is very dependent on certain city infrastructure, and we aren't going to have a subway next year*. But maybe on top of a dome, inflating during wind? It would also play against our reaction to moop--moop as art.

Okay, I don't think I'm gonna due that. However I would like to open this thread to all sorts of brainstorming about art projects that might tie into "metropolis." What would you like to see out there?

(*Actually, one of those wrought iron "Metro" gates from Paris would be lovely.)

did you interact with my he(art) piece on playa?

hi tribers,

this was my first year every doing an art instillation on the playa and i am looking for any stories, comments and/or pictures in relation to it. i would love them for my own enjoyment and to also pass along to my crew.

the piece was called incardia vere, and was a very large (~20 ft) anatomical red heart with blue veins made out of fiberglass. it was at roughly 2:30 and 1,200 ft beyond the man, and was open for people to go into to and explore. I hope you went in. :-) photos of it on my profile.

it was an amazing experience to give back to the community in that way, and I look forward to hearing any stories you might have.
Please email me directly at: incardiavere (at) gmail (dot) com

thank you.

love and dusty kisses,

Tower at 2:50 and A, (Altitude Lounge), did you visit?

Myself and 4 friends built a lounge in the 3:00 keyhole. It was 40 feet tall and had couches and bar (sometimes) on top as well as an LED array on top to serve as a beacon for those next to us. The tower was actually one of the subjects in the popular time lapse video posted in this group ( http://vimeo.com/6636389 ). If you liked it or hated it or had feedback on how to make it nicer let us know. It was a ton of work for us but if people dug it, we will keep it coming back. We were considering making it wider and a bit taller next year but if you think it is better kept small, then we might just leave it as is. Hope you had a chance to stop by.

I was wondering how many others have dreams about burning man. I have them frequently. There are a couple of recurring themes in mine:

I arrive forgetting something VERY important, like beer or other "consumables". A variant on this is that I drive to the nearby supermarket to get what I forgot, only to return to BM forgetting it again. Very frustrating.

I'm at BM with my Mom. Enough said.

I was the photographer with this year's temple crew. I've posted photos of the pre-event build on our site as well as shots taken during the event itself. Photos of the hard-working crew are still to come but I didn't want to keep y'all waiting any longer!

For The Bookfond Burners

Hey, y'all. So I reckon this would be the best place to let you all know of some literary-minded blog posts regarding the last Burning Man that I posted up on the website of The Bookloft, an independent bookstore based in the Berkshires. I touch there on life in Entheon Village, the resources for readers out on the playa and a rather surprising conversation with Adrian Roberts that ended up leading to a very begrudging retraction on my part. So here it is:

Part One:

http://bit.ly/19Rlnj

And Part Two:

http://bit.ly/KXoCQ

I should also mention to any burner authors out there specializing in fringe subject matter, feel free to let me know of your existence! I'm also open to any suggestions for books, either fiction or non-fiction, Burning Man-related or not. I've gotten GREAT recommendations out on the playa, so by all means, I'm open to knowing what actually makes people read around here.

Lessons To-Go

Many of the burners I know in real life tell me about personal growth that they experienced at burning man. For myself, I seem to have at least one major lesson each year at the event. Each one of these lessons has been the kind of lesson that changes me for good...not just at burning man, but something I take with me into my life.

This year it had to do with some lifelong anger I have had toward my mom. You know how everything gets magnified on the playa? Well I heard myself say something angry about my mom and I hated the way it felt and sounded. Then I had this thought, "This could be OVER if YOU decide it's over", and in that moment, I decided it's OVER.

Since then, I've had to think it through a bit, about what that actually means, and, is this real or just all in my head...but last night I was with my mom and, guess what? It's OVER.

My lesson this year was that I had the power to forgive my mother and that it's up to me to change around this, not her. I have to follow this thought with action and be conscious about not jumping into the things I normally use to fan the flames of my anger, and to continually renew my commitment to let it go...just let it go...and not NEED her to be different than she is.

If anyone else is willing to be personally revealing, I'd love to hear about what you learned this year and how you are applying it to your daily life.

The People Down Under Experience What a Playa Dust Storm Is Like

It is look like our friends down under are under going a dust storm just like we do. From The ABC, (http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2009/09/23/2694330.htm?site=science&topic=enviro)

"The spectacular dust storm that swept through most of eastern Australia may have had its origins twelve months ago, says an Australian expert.
And with climate change set to bring more variability, Australia may experience more large scale dust storms in the future.
This week's dust storm covered a large area of eastern Australia, with PM10 (particles less than 10 micrometres) levels in most Australian cities being well above safe levels.
"They're classed as dangerous at levels above 200 micrograms per cubic metre," says ABC weather forecaster Graham Creed.

Most people could not handle these dust storm, but us burners sure can handle dust storms. Unlike rest of the normal folks, we like dust. We have a high frustration tolerance for dust.

IWe live for this type of stuff
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XA5FIglUvRI&feature=PlayList&p=E3638710685FE14C&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=61)

I am already missing it being there. Most normal people cannot handle and they would leave, but we love it. It is what we live to do.

I know everyone stays for different durations and I am curious to find out how long your stay in BRC has changed over the years, or if this is was your first year...how long did you stay ?

(Relentlessly crossposted, with apologies!)

Myschievia, http://ntxb.org/ is the North Texas Regional that takes place from October 8-12 in Hughes Springs Texas. Last year attendance was 250-300 people and it's always a wonderful time. There's NEVER a burn ban in the piney forest, and this year not only do we have our own awesome effigy, but we'll be burning The Freak from Flipside!!

Tickets are $45 til the 20th, then $55 til October 5, when ticket sales end. There are NO TICKET SALES AT THE GATE!!

Please join us- we'd especially love to see folks who went to the Playa, who likely need to Decompress!!

Invitingly, and Love-and-Lightingly,
Major Tom

PS: This is the first time I've been back on this Tribe in 150,000 posts- almost 2 years! I left because of severe snarkiness, trollishness and bashing of the noobishness- I'm glad to be back!! Mwah!!
