I believe it was mark pincus who helped start tribe (?)
Well, see what he's been up to since he let this site crumble.

what do you mean "post pincus regieme?"

From what I understand, he bought back tribe from the VC, sold the tech to Cisco, and kept it limping along

            I meant NSA as in...

            "Tribe deal
NEW SYSTEMS ASSOCIATES EXECUTES OPERATING AGREEMENT TO MANAGE AND GROW TRIBE.NET

November 10th, 2008 SAN FRANCISCO - Utah Street Networks and New Systems Associates today entered into an operating agreement to manage Tribe.net (www.tribe.net), add competitive social networking features to the site, and revitalize the Tribe community.

The first priorities for New Systems Associates are to stabilize the platform and improve the site's performance. To accomplish these goals, the company is committing substantial resources to upgrade Tribe's hardware and application. The hardware migration will begin immediately, resulting in better performance and stability users expect from a world-class social network. New Systems Associates will also add new features to improve connections within the Tribe community and to other social networks and widgets.

In the longer term, New Systems Associates will grow the Tribe community by developing features including advanced privacy features, profile control, regional relevancy, personal discovery, and free-range connectivity. The company is committed to strengthening Tribe's alternative community and the unique ways in which users interact.

Utah Street Networks, Inc. is the owner of Tribe.net, one of the oldest social networking sites on the Internet and pioneers of social graphing.

New Systems Associates is an LLC formed by long-time Tribe members who believe in protecting and expanding Tribe's unique culture.
            November 11, 2008 " [from Pincus' blog]

Although, I assume "Utah Street" is another way of saying Mark Pincus and I still don't know if anyone has learned WHO just exactly the "group of long-time tribe members" are who make up NSA.

                "...some of the LOL crowd..."

Omigod. I've got some people who never freaking stop with "FTW!" and I want to strangle them, mostly because they've never been gamers and only know what those letters stand for because a gamer friend explained. it.

It actually comes from "The Hollywood Squares" when a contestant would say something like, "I'll take Charo for the win." The assumption being that this move will be the last.

                        Uhh... no.

All this proves is that you're too old to be a nerd.

It does come from HS originally, and was borrowed by gamers, just like "Spam" was originally from a Monty Python skit. All you proved is that you're both arrogant and ignorant, E&S.

Okay, I take it back. You're definitely old enough to be a nerd, but apparently too young to be aware that there were decades that preceded the 60's, in which SPAM featured heavily.

                            Sense of humor much?

Ugh. The geeks at the forefront of the interwebs, when asked why they called bulk junk email "spam," instead of oh, I dunno, "junk mail" said they were making a direct reference to the Monty Python, "Spam" skit. When I sense humor, I also let loose the OCD and do some research on the who, what, where, when, and assume the why is a combination of those. I'm familiar with the canned pork shoulder being important in Europe around the WWII and in Hawaii and how they got the warm and fuzzies for the stuff. That's where the Monty Python skit came from. The nice thing about being able to read, is that you don't have to have lived through many periods of time to know lots about them.

As for "FTW", the HS connection is why people who use "FTW" to mean "good" and extend that to use "FTL" to mean "bad" are a bit short of the mark. It's like people who use mentor/mentee when the fucking pair is protege and Carrie Prejean's quote where she said she was exited to "meet 'The Donald'" and went on to say "he meeted us." It's lazy and it annoys me.

I suggest that anyone traveling to England go out for breakfast and ask the server to tell them what's in the "Full English Breakfast." As the server recites this, mentally put "spam" into the place of every meat.

I think you'll recognize the result.

Tip the server, whether or not you order it. It's a pretty tiring show they put on for you.
