Hm but how does it handle; I'm having safety and efficiency concerns while doubting the versatility of this vehicle

It does answer the question of how Interstate Baking Corp. went bankrupt. They made the Hostess cupcakes too big and motorized.

are you saying people shouldn't sell their art?

yeah, the thought of an "undeserving person" riding around in one of these isn't exactly pleasant ('rich fucking morons').....i think if i could sell a giant motorized cupcake i'd made, for 25,000 $, i think i would.......

i do love those things.....it's quaint to think about them being our own private playa thang

Nobody will buy a cupcake nowadays unless it has:

      - GPS
      - tiltcruiseair
      - Front/side airbags
      - SYNC

Look for the hybrid next year and the fuel cell version in 2012.

Andy, the base vehicle (wheelchair) is already electrified. I can't see them putting in any sort of gas motor--heat and exaust issues.
And everyone, when you figure out the cost on a chair that goes 7 mph and think of what Marcus's cut probably is, they aren't making all that much money, really.

Fish, you sure about that? In the photo, it looks as if they have three small wheels, two in back and one in front.

I've always been told that there were wheelchairs.
            shrug

there are "power chairs" and "scooters". i have a scooter. it has 2 wheels in back and 1 in front for steering. the power chairs actually have 6 wheels. 2 large ones for power, 2 small one in back and 2 small ones in front. (heh. i have one of those also) it totally depends on which they choose to use as a base as to how many wheels you will see.

also IMO, if you have 25 grand to give up, go for it. they are cool to see scooting around on the playa.

How much do those scooters go for? I'm assuming they are cheaper than the electric wheel chairs.

I'm not certain about the price of the scooters, but because the way some law was written by congress, they are fully paid for by the insurance companies. Does that mean that because more are sold (if they are, this is a supposition on my part) they achieve economy of scale and are cheaper? Or does it mean that they are more expensive because there's no direct cost control pressure from the user? And what does that mean to someone who's buying without a perscription? Because, I'm guessing that's how they have to pay.

I posted this on Twitter, saying that I couldn't decide whether it was hilarious or horrifying, and someone said, rightly: "Anything that increases the number of these things being driven around in the world is a net Win."

    S'true.

Also: how many of those things will really be purchased? Maybe one, two? That catalog is nice to think about, but very few of those things are actually purchased. It's almost more an advertisement for the items in there, and the people who make them.

    Awww, come on.

Don't we all secretly fantasize about some ridiculously rich asshole seeing our artwork and sweeping in to purchase it for an ungodly amount of money, which would set us up financially so we could create to our heart's content without having to worry about fundage? I know I do. It doesn't change what I create, or how I do it, but in the back of my mind there's the fervent hope that one day this will happen to me too.

Maybe I'm narcissistic, but I believe that what I create to my own taste is "good stuff". Why shouldn't someone with money want to acquire it, and why should I turn my nose up at their largesse?

      >>Don't we all secretly fantasize about some ridiculously rich asshole seeing our artwork and sweeping in to purchase it for an ungodly amount of money..?<<

You know, strangely enough, I just don't; never have - I should; it's ot a moral or ethical thing, it's just... shrug, I dunno - I just don't. I fantasize about being able to create to my heart's content without having to worry about fundage, definitely, but ... I suppose my desired audience has never been necessarily rich, per se. Interesting divisor, there.

I'd prefer - I fantasize about - there not being an object for the word "rich" that doesn't have to do with food or emotional poignancy.

Well, I've thought about this some. I don't fault her for making money off her art. It was just kind of jarring to see that as the teaser for something like the NM catalog. Those cars really made an impression on me my first year. Just sort of diminishes their coolness in my eyes.

Oh come on. Their coolness was already diminished by their being in the "How Berkeley Can You Be?" parade.

      *thinks*

I think a lot of us learn things through the burn that we then go out and put on our resume. And it's certainly not as brazen and Lexus and the Waffle.
