I don't know what I should do! I love this website called Etsy where a bunch of artistic people sell their stuff. I was window shopping "Burning Man" and found this www.etsy.com/shop/LoveOfRama My first thought was to write them and tell them to "TAKE BURNING MAN OFF YOUR PAGE!! YOU SELL FEATHERS!!!! WTF! Then I thought well maybe I should be nice, but I can't seem to wrap my head around it. So I thought I would put it to our community to respond to this. I have to tell you all someone came into my camp with a really beautiful feather choker on and I told them they could not come into my camp with it on! I refuse anyone who has feathers on to come into our camp. Should I piss in my favorite shopping ground?

I guess this etsy site owner is a true ......... feathermerchant.
Ouch. Hurts to say it, but true. Lots of posers in the world. Seems like you found one.
Using the Burningman logo or pictures of the eventfor commercial purposes is verboten according to the org. There was a Wal-mart in Winnemucca that used the logo to advertise their wares upon entering the store in 2010 when I was passing through. THAT was verboten, but I never found out what happened to Wal-mart after the event, if anything. If the org catches this stuff, they do have lawyers that send nastygrams.
For your case, kim, I didn't see the use of the logo. Did they take it down? People use the phrase all the time, and try to tie their products in by the use of the phrase. But use the logo or event pix....the org can and will start legal action if needed. -

Re: Devil on one side the Angel on the other
Sun, May 6, 2012 - 5:45 PMWell they are not using the logo, just the tag burning man for the description. It just chaps my hide that they are selling feathers to people who may not have been and don't understand that it is a huge faux pas to bring any kind of feathers to the playa. There is one seller who is using a photo of the man on fire for their logo. www.etsy.com/listing/780...sting-add-to
Our second year we were at OT and some girl was wearing a hot pink feather boa and leaving feather bits on the ground in her wake glowing in the black light. I went and picked up a bunch and tapped her on the shoulder, I said excuse me but I think this is yours! She said oh, I am sorry. I said don't be sorry, just take off that boa and put it in your pack because some one is going to have to pick it up after her if she doesn't!
Thanks R!

Re: Devil on one side the Angel on the other
Sun, May 6, 2012 - 5:58 PMThe simple thing here is this: it's not up to YOU to enforce BM copyrights. It's up to the Borg. Tell them, then sit back and watch...

Re: Devil on one side the Angel on the other
Mon, May 7, 2012 - 7:07 AMtake a sip of your coffee and ease up.
feathers are not verboten on the playa IF affixed properly and do not become moop.
i've seen feathers each year, but speaking for myself, never seen any on the ground or blowing in the breeze.
instead, i see bottle caps, glowstix both dead and alive. i've seen discarded underwear and thongs at the port-potties. (some with BM logo, most without).
i think how the BM logo is used and how the words Burning Man are used would indicate the seller's intention.
when putting an ad on craigslist, many people add the words, "Burning Man," to help drive shoppers to their ad.
for example: when selling a RV, someone might say, "perfect for BM." or selling a bike or tent, or barrels for water, etc...
i see no problem with that. if they've built an online store specifically catering to the BM crowd, that might bother me.
best way to combat those sellers are to not shop with them, and move on.
why spend your energy shouting at someone that couldn't give two shits about what you think?
btw...i don't shop esty or other sites for products for burning man. i try to make my own stuff, and shop locally where i can see and tough stuff i want to buy.
i get what you're asking/saying. just trying to be more like a duck and let the water shed of my feathers! -

Cill my Landlord.
Mon, May 7, 2012 - 10:00 PMWell, in my humble and understated opinion, filthy scumfucks who rip off the wealthy borg copyright holders, and everyone who has anything to do with etsy in general are PIG FUCKING SACKS OF ASSHOLE PUKE WHO SHOULD BE BEATEN ON THE REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS, AND I WILL NOT BE SATISFIED UNTILL I STICK MY FIST UP YOUR BUTT, AND RIP OUT YOUR SPLEEN.
But then, your opinion may differ.
In any case, I think we can agree that feather boas on the playa are a bad idea. -

Are a bit easier to pick up, than a bunch of feathers floating round on the ground. I am sure I looked like Rocky Balboa chasing that damn chicken!
