"Shooting out" colors..... That would definitely give them that "Life" look.  Carrying half the genetic code of a living thing....  Hmmmm.&#xD;

But what kind of lights have the quality of being very small like a Christmas tree light AND project a beam as opposed to a general Xmas tree light?  Maybe a beam isn't necessary.&#xD;
&#xD;
Maybe  Xmas tree lights would be best.  Already the correct color..  And with the "shimmer" effect in the light controller.  LOL  THAT might just be what the doctor ordered.&#xD;
&#xD;
Pinwheel idea:&#xD;
20 sperm/ 20 pinwheels.  Some larger (30")  than others. Some small (12").  I dunno.</summary>

At night often times the air is still.  And the daytime for that matter.  Of course when we're not enduring a dust storm.  LOL&#xD;

I may just experiment with a reticulating sperm body with a twisting tail of some form.  Either via motor or by natural breeze.&#xD;

Oh, and "yes", this is going to be a moving Mutant Vehicle.   ;-)</summary>

    <summary type="html">Hmmm...  This could be challenging as spermatozoa have to operate&#xD;
in a very stiff medium (compared to air.)  Their tails (flagella?) are actually&#xD;
spirals if I recall my cellular biology correctly.  They don't flap or wave,&#xD;
they behave more like a corkscrew and rotate.  Reproducing the swimming&#xD;
action will require some sort of spiral construct mounted on a low friction&#xD;
bearing.  A VCR head comes to mind.&#xD;
&#xD;
   (OK, there are enough unintended puns in this reply to keep this thread&#xD;

on the back side of the pinwheel place a hot glued stick or stick pin &#xD;

on the end of the semi stiffened tail  make it with the same cloth just stiffen it with starch spray on...&#xD;
inside close enough for the stickpin through the pinwheel to hit it have a T bar  so every time the pinwheel  Stickpin hits it it wobbles the faster you go the faster the wobble..</summary>

Evolving in a mildly polygamous species will do that to your sperm.</summary>

Given that sperm behavior is not to react in unison, you may not want them to turn together toward the wind. If you do, the way I would do it is to make an vertical fin out of clear plastic, at the end of the tail. Sperm tails don't have a fin so it needs to be invisible. I think sperm move by flicking the tail side to side, maybe you could construct a joint that gives it that range of motion. Maybe it isn't side to side in one plane, but sort of random, that would be much more difficult to replicate, I think. Hard to tell the pattern of the motion in those microscopic videos, because the depth of field is flattened.</summary>

The main body of the sperm isn't that hard to fabricate but getting the little swimmers tails to swim is my big challenge.&#xD;
&#xD;
Body sizes to be between 6" and 2'.  Tails to be proportionate.  &#xD;
&#xD;
This will be on my Mutant Vehicle and so there will be wind when under way.  Dust storms, even better.  ;-)&#xD;
&#xD;
&#xD;
