Oh dang! That's a trippy thought. "Shooting out" colors..... That would definitely give them that "Life" look. Carrying half the genetic code of a living thing.... Hmmmm. But what kind of lights have the quality of being very small like a Christmas tree light AND project a beam as opposed to a general Xmas tree light? Maybe a beam isn't necessary. Maybe Xmas tree lights would be best. Already the correct color.. And with the "shimmer" effect in the light controller. LOL THAT might just be what the doctor ordered. Pinwheel idea: 20 sperm/ 20 pinwheels. Some larger (30") than others. Some small (12"). I dunno.

The scooter has a 12V battery. In addition I will either tow or strap on my Honda EU 1000 generator for AC power. So little motors is a good idea too. Hmmmm. At night often times the air is still. And the daytime for that matter. Of course when we're not enduring a dust storm. LOL I may just experiment with a reticulating sperm body with a twisting tail of some form. Either via motor or by natural breeze. Oh, and "yes", this is going to be a moving Mutant Vehicle. ;-)

No need to bend anything. Attach a piece of gift ribbon to the outer edge of the fanblade and it will spiral naturally. Better bring a lot of AA batteries if you go this route.

Hmmm... This could be challenging as spermatozoa have to operate in a very stiff medium (compared to air.) Their tails (flagella?) are actually spirals if I recall my cellular biology correctly. They don't flap or wave, they behave more like a corkscrew and rotate. Reproducing the swimming action will require some sort of spiral construct mounted on a low friction bearing. A VCR head comes to mind. (OK, there are enough unintended puns in this reply to keep this thread going for at least another week.)

inside pin wheel in line with opening on front with room to spin.. on the back side of the pinwheel place a hot glued stick or stick pin on the end of the semi stiffened tail make it with the same cloth just stiffen it with starch spray on... inside close enough for the stickpin through the pinwheel to hit it have a T bar so every time the pinwheel Stickpin hits it it wobbles the faster you go the faster the wobble..

I think it is chaotic, no particular movement pattern or rhythm. If that is the case, then an aerodynamically shaped head with a light, fabric tale moved by wind would approximate chaotic movement. (I believe)

Ah yes, sperm competition. Which relates to why the human penis has that helmet shape. I'll leave you to ponder that... but what pattern would this specialized activity of sperms resemble? They wouldn't all point in the same direction. I think the traditional way of representing their activity is to have an egg in the middle and the sperm radiating out from that center.

Actually, according to this morning's paper (at least I think it was this mornings paper) some sperm block the sperm of other potential fathers, some swim "for the gold", and there's a third group as well. Evolving in a mildly polygamous species will do that to your sperm.

Very cool idea. It will look great. Given that sperm behavior is not to react in unison, you may not want them to turn together toward the wind. If you do, the way I would do it is to make an vertical fin out of clear plastic, at the end of the tail. Sperm tails don't have a fin so it needs to be invisible. I think sperm move by flicking the tail side to side, maybe you could construct a joint that gives it that range of motion. Maybe it isn't side to side in one plane, but sort of random, that would be much more difficult to replicate, I think. Hard to tell the pattern of the motion in those microscopic videos, because the depth of field is flattened.

The school of sperm might be constructed similarly to windsocks and even replicate the swimming action. http://www.intothewind.com/images/sku_lg/9717.jpg Able to follow the direction of the wind no matter what direction. Either on a swivel from below or hanging from above. The main body of the sperm isn't that hard to fabricate but getting the little swimmers tails to swim is my big challenge. Body sizes to be between 6" and 2'. Tails to be proportionate. This will be on my Mutant Vehicle and so there will be wind when under way.
