Who's got the 2000 for under $900? Also, Yamaha makes similar superquiet inverter based generators. They're in the same league as Honda. Others are making them like Kipor, but I can't attest to their quality or performance. I've had a Yamaha for several years and like it a lot. Our village mayor has an older 2000 and likes his a lot as well.

IMHO a $200 genny is trouble. You get what you pay for. Anything that cheap is probably going to be a noisy and *smelly* two cycle engine. You're better off with a $500 genny and a baffle box. We've used a baffle box for years with good results. It helps to line it with thick carpet or some other dampening material. Also, we put a piece of curved sheet metal next to the cooling vent exhaust to direct the air up. This helps create a draft to cool the genny better than just slots at the bottom of the box. Whatever you do, change the oil post Burn and follow the directions to mothball it for the winter.

My various camps have never used quiet generators. A box works surprisingly well. I suppose the taller the box, the better it'll bounce all those sound waves up to the sky. Take that, stratosphere!
