I put a lot of time and energy into creating my own costumes and other stuff....but some things, I don't bother reinventing the wheel-- it just makes more sense for me from a time-and-materials standpoint to just purchase something from someone who has it figured out. (Podbelt, bras, camelbak/backpack, etc.). I don't know anyone who makes their own tent or bicycle or cooler. Everyone has to draw their own line about what works for them.
