Burning Man Ticket Update

Straight from the ticketing team at this past weekends all staff meeting.

On Tuesday or Wednesday people who registered will get an email telling them if they got tickets. If they did not, the email will tell you how to register for STEP (secure ticket exchange program)

People who end up with more tickets than then need have the option before the tickets are ever mailed, to sell them back to Burning Man. They get a refund.

Burning Man will take those tickets sold back and redistribute them to people who opt in to the STEP program. You must opt in, it is not automatic

This way tickets people don't want/need stay out of scalpers hands and people looking for tickets need not meet some stranger in a parking with hundreds of dollars in cash. The STEP program will operate up until physical tickets are mailed out this summer.

Then there is still the secondary sale in March with 10K tickets sold the old fashioned way, first come first served.

Bob, I love you man, but do you know how wrong this is on so many levels?
The Org died somewhere back in the late 90's or early oughts.
You, of all people, shouldn't be a mouthpiece. A tool. For policy's obviously flawed for a few who trumpet no consumerism on the way to selling out.
    You are better than this.

      The Org isn't dead.

It just has gout, real bad, and mostly the Org sits in a La-z-boy recliner, and beats Larry with his cane.

Oh, yeah. The Org is alive, if not well, and you really don't want to invite him over for dinner.

Uh, no, they cancelled the 10K sale. The BORG in its infinite wisdom will choose whom to sell those 10K tickets to. They are keeping the promise of 4K tickets for low income, so 28% of the participants this year will be chosen by the BORG (they pick who to give the low income tickets to) nearly three in ten will be specially anointed rather than self-selected.

Tons of newbies, 4K low income. Not sure I want to be prepared and well stocked out there, it might be good practice for the coming apocalypse, though!

Any bets on the number of STEP transactions? I'm willing to wager a ticket on zero.

I am honestly starting to come to the point where I think anyone who has ever gone to the burn should not go this year. Then next year, there will be PLENTY of tickets!

A bunch of newbies, eh? Well, then, I'm only bringing PBR this year. Although, I may splurge on some Jim Beam for special occasions, like 2nd year burners dropping by.....

Come to the dark side, now that you've seen the truth. Vacate the burn!
The hope and dream is that it will be so hot, so dusty (very little snowpack this year), and so lacking on the usual theme camps, art cars, sound camps and art that all those newbies will hate it. Population and demand will drop, and after a dismal year or two, we'll be able to take the event back.

i suspect many will use local means to resell their tickets: F2F via-
    craigslist
    FB
    word-of-mouth
    gifting
(and hopefully all at face, plus shipping/handling/processing...).

i think i'd want to see and meet the new ticket holder, wish them a wonder-filled burn, to possibly make a new friend.

    recoup the that $7.00 too
