Did you pay sales tax on your tickets?
    • Sales tax is generally expected

Well... no. But I wondered why not.
Does anyone know why not? Perhaps it's an oversight?

Not that I want any extra fee, but I would've thought tax would have been there, well for an online purchase if the purchaser is in California (or Nevada if the tax is based on the event location, not the sellers location).

In California sales tax is charged for tangible goods. There is no sales tax on services. (Not yet anyway) The exceptions being food does not have sales tax unless it is warm. Think immeadiate consumption, restaurant etc. The exception for service is rental items. If you rent a tool or a Uhaul truck you will pay sales tax. There are other exceptions and loop holes, but Burning Man is not selling a product or renting you anything. They are essentially offering a service.
