Fri, September 12, 2008 - 2:00 PM"I think LOTS of people left early"
I think the spread went both ways. I believe a lot left early and more stayed later. It seemed to me that the playa was more populated at sunset Monday than I have seen it in the past.

Re: Monday exodus issues?
Tue, September 2, 2008 - 12:11 PMNo wait at all for me.
Just a nice, gentle drive out.
Less than an hour to Gerlach. -

Re: Monday exodus issues?
Tue, September 2, 2008 - 12:25 PMbest exodus for us in years, we left Sunday Morning 9am, 2 hours to the blacktop, steady crawl,
I'm wondering if they "hired" someone that lives where they use those hiway traffic light thingys, seemed to me they had it down to a science this time, releasing cars a couple seconds apart, brilliant...

Re: Monday exodus issues?
Tue, September 2, 2008 - 4:24 PMWere you on the bio bus w/me? We left 6:20ish am & never stoped, it was 20 - 30 minutes tops till the highway, slowed down for a couple minutes at some point & that was it. I had a 12 am flight to catch, all I heard was 6 hours total to Reno airport. We probably got there bout 10:30 given the bio bus wasn't going that fast, someone next to me suggested under 60 mph.

Re: Monday exodus issues?
Tue, September 2, 2008 - 4:56 PMWe left Naked Noodle Camp at 4:45 & Impala at 6PM Monday and we were on the 80 by 8:15! Best Exodus ever for us also. I think a lot of people left early....some to avoid delays and some who were just over it because they weren't prepared for the weather. Also...when we left at 6PM on Monday, there were a LOT of people still there with camps set up like they were planning on staying until Tuesday morning. -

Re: Monday exodus issues?
Wed, September 3, 2008 - 11:28 AMWew left at around 1pm, 45 minutes to Gerlach, BEST EVER!
Its also funny how people dont use all of the lanes, when the sign clearly says USE ALL LANES! -

Re: Monday exodus issues?
Sun, September 14, 2008 - 7:26 AMYeah, we left about the same time, took maybe an hr to hit pavement, but that included the obligatory pic of the BM 09 sign. -

Re: Monday exodus issues?
Sun, September 14, 2008 - 10:35 AMBoth my entrance and exit this year were:
a) at night
b) in heavy traffic after LONG wait s to get in (3 hours) out (2 hours)
so I didn't think to take a photo of the sign :-(

Wed, September 3, 2008 - 12:02 PMLeft Monday around 1pm, was in exodus like an hour or so but it was a steady move for most of it. Worked out great.
Good job DPW!!!! -

DPW doesn't handle Exodus. PG&E (Perimeter, Gate, and Exodus) does.

Re: Monday exodus issues?
Fri, September 12, 2008 - 1:12 PMI am the Exodus Manager and I ran the Exodus Operations this year. I wanted to thank everyone for spacing out the time you left BRC...it made the difference that you are all expressing now. We are truly limited by the size and carrying capacity of NV-34, and the thing that can have the greatest effect on the Exodus is when y'all decide to get in your cars and leave.
Longest times this year were in the 3 - 3.5 hour range, and that was on Sunday mid-day. Not too shabby when compared to times of some prior years.
Note: Exciting ideas brewing for Exodus next year. Call it Greening the Exodus...more to come... -

Re: Monday exodus issues?
Fri, September 12, 2008 - 1:26 PMThanks Seth!
Awesome Exodus this year, left shortly after Sunset on Monday and rolled straight out. We didn't have to stop and idle at all the whole way out except to rap with and gift the DPW.
Huge difference from the nightmare last year we we left around the same time.

Re: Monday exodus issues?
Fri, September 12, 2008 - 7:17 PMWe waited until Tuesday eve to roll out. There were a lot more people still on the playa Monday eve than in past years, though from our camp at 3:30 and A it took us only 30 mintutes to reach blacktop. I think that the efforts to spread out the traffic seem to have worked well.
Best Exodus for me! -

Re: Monday exodus issues?
Fri, September 12, 2008 - 8:12 PMSeth, I work for a state Department of Transportation, and you guys almost have traffic control down to a science for exodus. We left on Monday morning about 9:00 a.m., and the vehicle was moving nearly all the way to 447. The folks who were on the road looked like they knew what they were about, with the retroreflective orange vests, etc. The only way I could see to even think about speeding up exodus is to use two or three lanes all the way to 447, but you'd have three people turning left simultaneously (unless they wanted to head out on Jungo Road) and that would be an accident waiting to happen.
You did a tough job well, you did it efficiently, and you acted professionally about it. Seth, you get my vote for miracle of the year, handling exodus that well. -

Re: Monday exodus issues?
Sat, September 13, 2008 - 9:31 PMI left Monday about 4 P.M. and got to the pavement in about 45 minutes (I barely had to pause at all)! It was by far the shortest exodus in the 8 times I've gone!

Re: Monday exodus issues?
Sat, September 13, 2008 - 10:03 PMleft monday at 11:30, got to the greeters gate in 20 minutes and was about halfway from there to the highway when....
It came to a halt and took 2 hours to go 200 yards. (people were just being stupid)
glad to hear they got it organized after that

Re: Monday exodus issues?
Sun, September 14, 2008 - 10:43 AMMy Exodus shift rocked (at least in my head). I was stationed between the 6:30-6-5:30 bottleneck and the eight lanes leading to Gate.
I had a great time leading folks 'round the sand pit that had formed on the 5:30 side and dividing the lemming lines (when there was any traffic).
Anybody got any pics of the dork--me--dressed in gray tights, a black long sleeve shirts & white gloves? I was straight groovin' from 2pmish 'til 6pm.
To any of the dozen or so folks I got into a mano-a-auto showdown/shoot-out with, thanks, it was a hoot and a half!
Tiki-Bob and Seth did an outstanding job whipping a wobbly bunch of hangovers into a fine crew of lemming ranglers. -
