While chilling outside BMIR on Saturday during the storm, a steady stream of people came by for updates on the burn delay, sharing various rumors of postponement and cancellation. A few folks seemed to buy my explanation that Barak Obama was coming to light the man and the dust had delayed his motorcade. Just wondering if this made it into the mill....

Nobody in mainstream politics wants anything to do with Burning Man. Can you imagine what the press coverage would be like? From Obama to Jiffy Lube... after these messages. -

The Playa rumor we heard was the Jimmy Buffett would be playing at 8:30 and Edsel the afternoon of the burn and then going out on the Playa when the Man burned. The rumor even came with a "corroborating" story that the rumor came from a backup man for Buffett who had brought a motorhome to the Playa for him that day. We laughed...thanked the guy who appeared to believe his rumor...and then sat around camp drinking in the dust Sat wondering if anyone had been stupid enough to go all the way across in the dust storm to "see" Jimmy Buffett.

Mon, September 15, 2008 - 6:44 PMI was told that Jimmy Buffet was at BM this year and that he dressed up as a clown and played some Jimmy Buffet cover songs. Of course, the guy telling me this had pupils the size of dinner plates, so I took it with a spoon full of salt. -
