I have a bunch of extension cords that I use at BM as well as other events all year long. What is the best way to label them with my name, address, and phone number? I wish there was shrink wrap that would fit over the plug allowing a piece of paper to be attached, but I have not seen anything like that. Does anyone have an idea?

    • err...delete that!
      I meant to post...

I’m pretty anal about my stuff. Especially when on the road, I know exactly where my gear is. One flashlight always within reach, etc…
I’ve never lost my wallet, car keys, never run out of gas.
Must be partly a Military thing. Situational Aware.
Over the last 5 years of working Festivals, a very few of my things have ‘walked off’. BM 2002 it was my three D cell mag light. A tool and a weapon!
This year the same thing happened at Dreamtime.
So I carefully marked EVERYTHING I own with my initials.

Kamikaze Kelly is just too many letters, and I am also known as KK online.
KK scratched on my Mag light. KK Sharpied on my gas can.
My tools. My computer. My camelback. I mean everything!!
Sooo…I pull in to the Estates where the DPW Workers live pre-event. Park, and go meet the neighbors.
      First person I meet.

Nice guy, otherwise I would hate him.

He now has full right to freaking everything that I own.

      GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
Kamikaze Kelly can now NOT be known as KK
How dare someone steal my initials!
KK, do you need a Mag light? It’s in the back of my truck with all your other tools and gear.
      KK. I mean KAMIKAZE KELLY!!!

Cheap suggestion. Go to West Marine or any nautical sales store and ask them for life preserver reflection tape. The shit works quite well and if you're anywhere near a light source they'll shine brightly. The adhesive on the tape is pretty strong and all you need to do is cut a small, 1/4"x 1/2" strip and tack it to every meter of cord.
    • Whenever I need to mark something like a cord, I usually just write the label on a piece of tape and then put the center of the tape (by length) around the cord and stick the trailing ends to each other. Someone can just tear the hanging end off, but if their intent is to steal your cord, marking probably isn't going to help a whole lot. You can also get small laminated tags, like luggage tags, and zip tie them to the cord.
  • like in a theme camp with dozens of other people all using extension cords, labeling is ok, used to do that, but now I think...

basically taking home about the number of cables I brought is fine with me... I get back mostly the ones I brought, but it's not worth it to make a big deal hunting down a few extension cords... & ratchet webbing... & bungees... & tent stakes... all that kinda stuff... I see my stuff as kinda community stuff, offered freely to campmates at events if needed... like the stuff they lend me when I need something...

so maybe you might end up with 3 less ratchet webbings than you brought, but maybe have an my extra extension cord or two... it's all relative... he he... just saying... /+/+/+/+\
