I always take that same route and pretty much resign to the fact i'm probably going to have to pay more for gas on the drive. Try to use the stations in the actual towns and not the "last chance" gas stations.

Check carefully when you get the list of gas stations for the ones closest to the freeway so that you are not driving more than a mile or 5 minutes from the freeway. I have been working on this myself for a little while to prepare my driving directions to each possible choices along my route from the Bay Area. I am thinking that I'll refuel twice so that there will still be plenty in the tank when I leave BRC (suggestion).

When I drove in today the smoke shot where you leave I80 had gas at 2.68 - in gerlach it was 3.04

(oh and yes there is wifi here)
