Last I heard it was the last year of Stiffy lube unless somebody else was willing to put it together. -

Re: Burning Man without Stiffy Lube.
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 11:22 PMI think about that camp every time I drive by this vacant lot in Santa Rosa that has a sign that says : "Jiffy Lube is coming" I always put the emphasis on the IS for some reason... -

Wed, May 14, 2008 - 8:31 PM"I think about that camp every time I drive by this vacant lot in Santa Rosa"
I think about that camp every time I hear dueling banjos.
....
And as far as picking up after ... would YOU pick up stuff up off the ground at St/Jiffy Lube?

Re: Burning Man without Stiffy Lube.
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 11:58 PMI camped across the street from them last year.
Good times... -

Re: Burning Man without Stiffy Lube.
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 8:54 AMNaughty, naughty Stiffy Lube: the MOOP map from '07 revealed them as being one big red zone (lots of MOOP).
If they do come back (and I hope they will) they should spend a bit more time picking up after themselves. -
-
Re: Burning Man without Stiffy Lube.
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 9:28 AMthe MOOP Map is a conspiracy
-
Re: Burning Man without Stiffy Lube.
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 10:02 AMOh yeah, I was there for their clean up. I watched as one of them rolled a burn barrel (with it's open engravings) across the playa leaving a trail of ash all the way to the truck. Ouch.
-
Re: Burning Man without Stiffy Lube.
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 11:06 AMUnless you can get the wind to stop blowing, the MOOP map lies. -
-
Re: Burning Man without Stiffy Lube.
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 11:21 AMIt wasn't this time.
-
Re: Burning Man without Stiffy Lube.
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 4:16 PMwas there the tuesday after. fierce storm. moop map is in no way accurate. -
-
Re: Burning Man without Stiffy Lube.
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 4:58 PMI was on the line the day we MOOPed Stiffy Lube, There was a good bit of stuff, but the memorable thing that marked the spot was hundreds of little triangular plastic things- we soon realized they were the tops of single-serving lube packets! Each was no doubt a fun time, and we understood if LNT wasn't on the MOOPers' minds at that moment. Still kinda gross to pick up by hand...
It's sad to see such a bastion of butt sex fall apart, but it's a wonder that they lasted so long (Viagra perhaps?)
My favorite was after the "Pink Man Sign" year, the sign was 2 wire-frame "Man" sculptures doin' it doggy style, and no one batted an eye. -
-
Re: Burning Man without Stiffy Lube.
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 11:49 AMThe neo-cubist wire frame sculpture ROCKED!
At first it just looked like some random kinetic art, and then it clicked, and I laughed so hard I almost fell off my bike!

Re: Burning Man without Stiffy Lube.
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 8:24 AMIt's really pathetic when people try to pass off their bullshit as a joke, after people call them on it. Either have the balls to stand behind what you really think or if it was a joke, apologize. -

Re: Burning Man without Stiffy Lube.
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 8:51 AMYea!!
If your going to act like an @$$ hole, at least be consistant and admit your an @$$ hole.
Of course I don't know anyone like that, I'm a saint.
I have to admit I never went to Jiffy or Stiffy Lube.
Isn't that where you went to get your joints and bearings greased.
My bike was squeeky all week long last year.
I would have loved to have found this camp.
If they had of performed their service for me I would have been grateful and bent over to do anything to thank them.
I heard they were a great bunch of guys.
Camps like this is what Burning Man is all about.

-
Re: Burning Man without Stiffy Lube.
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 7:05 PMAnd it wasn't much of a story. I mean, it just sounds like an underage girl sneaking into a bar with her friend or something. I suppose that's what is. -

Yet you'll sleep on a couch in the front of your camp completely naked with a hard-on? haha. That was one of my favorite memories of 2006. -

Re: Burning Man without Stiffy Lube.
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 5:50 PMUh, yeah. You are right. I apologize for trying to have some fun, ironically enough, in a tribe dedicated to burning man which is, as we all know, an event totally devoted to seriousness, like the event itself and like those who originally named a theme camp "Jiffy Lube" which was dedicated to the gay male community.
Totally serious, they were. They had no tongue firmly planted into their collective cheeks. No sir. Not them. All business and totally serious they were. My mistake.
Yeah, right... -

Really, the only thing you could be criticized for is that you didn't put a "joke" flag onto that so people would know you were smiling. Emoticons, or meta-tags are all acceptable. :-)

Re: Burning Man without Stiffy Lube.

Well... DM said he talked to JD recently who said that JL/SL would be returning to BM. In what manner and form is still being worked out, because the cammo tents were in seriously sad shape.
Yes, the moop map is a lying bitch. But she's OUR lying bitch, and we love her. The LNT clean sweep team found dozens of tiny little plastic bits in a certain plot of land. Strangely resembling the tear-off tops of small tubes of lube. But I'm sure they were actually Lego blocks that blew in from Kidsville. ;-p
One thing is certain: it takes a village to raise a tent (for men to have sex in). All involved would welcome support, during setup and teardown. I'm not going to name any names, or point any fingers (you know who you are!) but SOME people think that others have nothing better to do than to labor on the playa to set up hedonistic hot spots for them. The best way to ensure that 'Lube arrives on the playa in 2008 is to make a commitment to help get it there.
Maybe we need to change the motto: "Help set up. get in, get off, and get out. Help teardown."
