Sorry... but in keeping with the "green theme" we will be filling the pool with slugs... a natural way to keep the pool clean.

According to our calculations, limiting the pool party to ticket holders will keep the water "clean" until Saturday... then the man will collapse into the reflective pool with a great big ying-yang splash.

We're working out the cost, but it's been suggested that we hand out waterproof diapers to assure that there's no "p" in pool.

"Peak time" being a code for the daily secret orgy?

Just a note for folks not to worry. As the pool will be in the pavillion area all steps necassary will have been taken to assure that you don't know who actually makes the pool or brought it to the playa. We encourage you though to explore this "reduced water" pool and learn how we are reducing and recusing water to make pools in the desert a more sustainable practice.

Going to Hawaii after the burn, huh?

The only way this will be OK with me is if you can show me the math for the carbon offsets where you show that there will be less CO2 emitted than will be emitted by the purchase of the supplies, construction, transport of supplies out to the playa, transporting and heating water for the pool, and of course the methane released by everyone using the pool. That compared to the CO2 emitted by the planes that will take you to the big Island.

But, the kiddie pool idea would certainly reduce the methane factor.

Special Notice:

I happy to report that after very heated negotiations (Larry... I promise I'll get your hat back to you as soon as the papers are signed) that the Snack Stand will be opened again at the far end of the kiddie pool.

We are asking (in the true spirit of Burning Man) for all volunteers that help out at the Snack Stand to bring their own snacks for distribution.

Snacks will NOT BE SOLD... THEY WILL BE GIFTED!

And in keeping with the green theme, we gift you a snack... you gift us with one of your green backs, 2 snacks, 2 green backs.

In other developments:

Since everyone is equal at Burning Man, but some are more equal than others, the VIP kiddie pool will be open to all Burners who gift us with additional green backs.

For those who are interested I am organizing the new ranger lifeguard unit. Prospective participants must show that they can swim 300 yards without stopping, have an up-to-date CPR card, and must supply their own fun-fur bikinis.

As some of you folks know, we are very open minded when it comes to playing around in the pool... accordions, trumpet and flutes can be safely played in the water... but we draw the line with the sex.

As all musicans know, the sexaphone could be a very dangerous instrument around water. The horn part of the sexaphone would be underwater and could do damage to some swimmers. So the short answer is no.

We still haven't figured that out.

But Marcho is excited and is ready with the ruler (remember, 8" minimum to enter... but we may reconsider that since my wife reminded me that I wouldn't be allowed in the pool... as it stands.)

2007 was a great year for our pool... couldn't get it off the ground for 2008 but good news:

I just got my art grant and this year's giant swimming pool... will once again be constructed at the base of the man!

We're going to need some volunteers to help with the cementing of the playa hole we will be digging... but at least we don't have to dig very deep... 6 feet should do it by 100 feet.

After the burn, we plan to open the trench to toss all the burned wood and ash into the pit. We will also be accepting garbage (no plastic please)... after we fill it in and cover it with playa we will be leaving no trace.
